The family-owned Clos Malverne Wine Estate in the Devon Valley outside of Stellenbosch has released the latest vintages of its flagship wines – Auret 2010 and Pinotage Reserve 2010. “These latest additions prove that after more than 25 years of quality winemaking under its belt, Clos Malverne is an old hand when it comes to classic, elegant red wines of great complexity and exceptional maturation potential. There is simply no room for compromise on quality,” shares winemaker Suzanne Coetzee.
Clos Malverne Auret 2010 (R168) has 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Pinotage, 9% Merlot and 5% Shiraz. The wine spent more than a year on French oak has a palate of dark berries with herbaceousness, with notes of liquorice and star anise. The Pinotage Reserve 2010 (R148) has a dark plum hue and bursts with red and dark berries, with a slight hint of sweeter oak spices and roasted mocha aromas. “My favourite grape varietal is Pinotage and fortunately Clos Malverne has an excellent track record when it comes to world-class Pinotage. We pride ourselves in quality consistency and one should never be nervous to open a 10 year old bottle of Clos Malverne Pinotage Reserve for your friends,” shares Suzanne.
